Berliner Tafel

Berliner Tafel was established in 1993. A large number of volunteers assist with the distribution of donated food to 300 social organisations and 45 issuing points, who then make it available to the homeless and other Berliners in need.

Institut Kirchhoff Berlin GmbH has made regular donations of food and confectionery to the Berliner Tafel, and by doing so takes a clear stand against poverty and food waste. In addition to this, the Institut Kirchhoff Berlin GmbH’s executive management also supports the wonderful concept of Berliner Tafel by making additional financial donations. This is our way of making a small contribution towards supporting those in need of help.

SOS Kinderdorf (Children’s Village) Berlin

The foundation for SOS Kinderdorf was laid in 1949 when medical student Hermann Gmeiner donated a new home for war orphans left behind with the first Children’s Village after the Second World War. Today, the German SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. runs 129 homes in 43 countries.

Abandoned and orphaned children find a sense of security and belonging within the Kinderdorf family. The organisation helps them recognise and develop their individual skills, interests and abilities until they can head out into the world to lead their lives as confident, independent adults.

In 2019, Institut Kirchhoff Berlin GmbH set up an SOS mentorship programme for Yanileidy from the Dominican Republic, Thérèse from Guinea, Ashok from Nepal, Ante from Croatia, and Boonmay from Laos, to give these children a loving home, dedicated caregivers, and long-term support paid for from sponsorship.

KINDERHILFE – Hilfe für krebs –und schwerkranke Kinder e.V.

KINDERHILFE was first established back in 1983 as a small self-help group for parents whose children were suffering from cancer or other serious illnesses.

The group supports children, teenagers and young adults, along with their families, every step of the way. Alongside the opportunity to exchange information and experiences, and providing support regarding social and tax issues, the group also offers financial support for those in need, works to improve treatment and aftercare, and promotes cancer research. The group also provides accommodation for parents while their children are being treated in hospital.
