In addition to the detection of typical patterns of contamination, the use of GCxGC-TOF-MS technology in MOSH and MOAH analysis allows further insights. It enables more information to be gained about the different types of structural subgroups of MOSH and MOAH. Likewise, conclusions can be drawn about the sources of contamination and results of LC-GC-FID analysis can be verified. The high quality in the identification of petroleum hydrocarbons, their markers and the correct interpretation through the use of the GCxGC-TOF-MS method, which we use at the Kirchhoff Institute in Berlin, has now also been confirmed by the independent interlaboratory test organiser PROOF-ACS GmbH on spiked real samples.
Within the scope of the interlaboratory comparison P2101-MRT, GCxGC-TOF analysis of MOSH and MOAH in chocolate, we were able to demonstrate that we can reliably determine the relevant substance groups from mineral oil contamination and correctly interpret sources. Other private and official laboratories participated in the interlaboratory comparison. So far, a harmonised approach for the identification of MOSH/MOAH and related substances by GCxGC-TOF analysis is still missing. Our expertise, certified in the interlaboratory comparison, now confirms the high quality of our analytics and provides another confidence building block for your food safety concept.
