Determining perchlorate using LC-MS/MS

For more than two months now, the determination of perchlorate in fresh fruit and vegetables using LC-MS/MS has been one of the services offered by the Institut Kirchhoff Berlin GmbH. During this period, we have already examined more than 350 samples for perchlorat. Around 20% of the samples proved positive.

Determining perchlorate using LC-MS/MS

Perchlorate residues cannot be detected using the multi-methods used for detecting the majority of pesticide agents (eg the QuEChERS method). A special method published by the EU reference laboratory for single methods in residue analysis, CVUA Stuttgart, was instead established. Perchlorate residues in fresh fruit and vegetables can be quantified extremely sensitively using this method. Quantification is by an isotype-labelled internal standard.
